I thought the idea of 'four way stretch' is that the trousers are well-cut, so they do not snag on every bit of gorse, or flap like sails in the wind. These don't need four way stretch unless you have legs like sawn-off pillar boxes. I bought size 34 regular length trousers which fitted me fine (I am a 34) and were the right length (I am 5'10"). But the width at the bottom hem was bigger than on my old size 36 Rohan bags. I wonder whether the pair in the picture have been altered in some way as they are clearly tailored whilst the ones I was sent are not. Due to the construction it is not possible to take these in down the side seams.

So I ended up paying twice as much for Montane Treks - which I have to say were well tailored and presented no incumbrance whilst scrambling on the Moel Siabod ridge this weekend.
